River City Robotics 2011-2013

River City Robotics students won 1st place on May 26th in the 2011 California State Fair Industrial & Technology Education Competition. The River City robot called the “Tri-Bot” received the grade “excellent” from the judges in the following categories: general appearance, functionality, practicality and overall performance. The award winning “Tri-Bot” was on display during the California State Fair from July 14thto July 31st in Expo Center #3 as exhibit #249. 

On Saturday January 15th the River City High School Robotics Team participated in their first robotics competition, the Bay Area Regional Robotics challenge that was held at Bellarmine College Preparatory school in San Jose. The River City “vtechrangers” and their “Tri-Bot” were the 2nd highest scoring robotic team out of 51 high school robotic teams.

On April 28th River City High School Robotics students participated in the Math Programming Competition and won 1st place, and on May 5th they participated in the RoboPlay-Robot Challenge and won 1st place. Learn More about Competitions.

River City High School Robotics students participated in the 2013 C-STEM Day Robo-Play Challenge and won 1st place for the 2nd year in a row. This year’s challenge had 25 participating schools and 30 robotics teams. The students had 4 hours to program their robots to complete 10 tasks to earn a maximum of 600 points. River City Students won the challenge by scoring 510 points. Please congratulate Michael Miller, Teresa Fernandez, Jordan Criswell, Abijah Williams and Christian Barrett for winning 1st place. Tarang Tandel received the Award of Excellence for his dedication and commitment to C-STEM. Sangat Tandel and Arturo Lupian also received recognition for their participation and support of the team. The students’ overall performance, collaboration, leadership and their collective ability to adjust and adapt in order to overcome the challenges presented captured the attention of the UCD Chancellor Linda Katehi and the Intel executives. Consequently, they are requesting to include the students to be a part of an advertising campaign to promote STEM education. This campaign will appear in several local magazines.
