College Board announces changes to AP Euro, APUSH exams

Responding to teacher feedback after the 2016 exams, College Board has announced modifications to the Advanced Placement exams for European History, US History, and World History (River City does not offer AP World).

Among the changes:

  • Students will have 10 more minutes to answer the DBQ and Long Essay questions;
  • Periodization and Synthesis are no longer listed as course skills, and the synthesis point has been removed from the DBQ and Long Essay scoring rubric
  • The focus on the DBQ will be drawn from years 1600-2001 in AP Euro and 1754-1980 in APUSH.
  • The required number of Short-Answer Questions to answer has been reduced from four to three, with a choice between two for the final SAQ;
  • Students will have 10 fewer minutes to answer the SAQ questions (40 minutes);
